Day 4: Felt Story Pattern Giveaway from Copy Crafts

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED.  THE WINNER IS:  The Frugal Free Gal

Day 4: Felt Story E-Pattern Giveaway

While 'surfing' Etsy I came across this amazing shop called Copy Crafts.  Jenn and John, owners of Copy Crafts sell e-patterns that are one of kind, hand-drawn designs that are just adorable!  I was so excited when Copy Crafts allowed me to try out one of thier e-patterns, The Night Before Christmas

The e-pattern came as an attachment in a e-mail.  The PDF not only came with the patterns for the The Night Before Christmas felt set, but also instructions and a tutorial for making a bag out of fabric to keep your pieces in.

To get started, all I needed was:

-The patterns printed on Iron Transfer paper (note: I found the Avery brand transfer paper at WalMart)
-Iron
-White felt

The process of making the felt pieces was easy.  Once I had the patterns printed on transfer paper, all I had to do was iron them on and cut them out!  If you are using Avery Iron Transfer paper here are a couple of tips:
-Do not use an ironing board.  Use a pillowcase on a hard surface as the directions suggest.
-Press very firmly- especially around the edges.

It was so exciting to see the images appear when peeling away the transfer paper.  The colors are quite vibrant compared to some of the manufactured felt sets I own.  Aren't they adorable!

I couldn't get them cut out fast enough for my little one.  She was quite excited to get her hands on the pieces!  Look at that face -- she loves them!

So, how do we plan on using this felt board?  Well beyond telling the traditional story of the night before Christmas, here are a few ideas...

-Pattern the reindeer by using the color on thier collar (red and green)
-Create simple addition or subtraction problems using the reindeer or the presents
-Counting: count the stockings, stars out of the window, reindeer and presents
-Visual Discrimination: have little one close thier eyes. Take away one piece from the felt set.  Can he or she recognize what is missing?

Well... the Night Before Christmas is just one of the felt sets that call my name in the Copy Crafts shop.  Check out the Baby in Bethlehem Set,  the Ride the Rails train set or the Capital Letters Set
These felt sets would make wonderful Christmas gifts for the little ones in your life.  From playgroup gifts to preschool gifts- these will be a hit!

  27. A little easier method for felt board stories: I use milk filters, cut them to paper size and run them right thru the printer. When dry, simply cut out and they will adhere to the felt board just like actually using felt. So much quicker and cheaper!! Milk filters can be purchased at farm stores or online. I use 15 inch (circle) so it will be big enough to cut down to paper size.
