Day 2~ Cheap Christmas Learning Materials!

Day 2: Cheap Christmas Learning Materials

I am always on the lookout for good manipulatives and tools for my little one to use.  Today at Walmart I found some cheap multi-functional holiday tools!  Check them out!

Mini Bows- $1

These mini bows are so cute!  I found them in the wrapping aisle in the Holiday Section.  Check out all the great things you could do with these bows:

-Sorting by color
-Matching (use 2 of each bow)
-Patterning
-1 to 1 correspondence
-Counting
-Game pieces
-Simple addition and subtraction
-A sensory table filler

Stickers- 1$

These stickers come in one packet and have 4 different designs.  Each design has 3 sheets...total of 200 stickers!  Not only are these fun for playgroups and classrooms, they are great for fine motor development too!

Try...

-Encouraging your little one to peel the stickers off the sheet, using his/her pincer grasp and put them on a piece of paper to create a collage.  A challenge task for tiny tots!
-Making a sticker story with older children.  Use the stickers to create a scene.  Write a story to accompany the sticker scene.
-Use a simple rewards :)

Holiday Erasers- $1

These erasers are great size!  I also loved how they had multiple designs in one pack.  Here are some ideas for these fun erasers!

-Sort by style
-Use as a counter
-Make simple story problems (ex: 3 snowmen sat in the snow. The sun came out and melted 1.  How many are left?)
-Matching (use 2 of each bow)
-Patterning
-Using tweezers to transfer the erasers to a bowl
-Game pieces
-Matching (use 2 of each eraser)
-Sensory Table filler

Mini Pens- $2

12 pens come in this pack and they are mini!  Not only are they fun, they are functional.  According to Marianne Gibbs, EdD, OTR/L from Write Out of the Box it is best for little ones to use smaller writing utencils, such as golf pencils, crayons broke in half or these mini pens.
If you haven't checked out the Write Out of the Box website, go on over!  There are some wonderful tips on fine motor skills in little ones for parents and teachers.

Do you have an idea for using these manipulatives?  I would love to hear it!
