A few quick organizational tips…

As with many classrooms, A LOT of ‘stuff’ can accumulate quickly.

I have a couple tips to keep all those craft materials as organized as possible!

IMG_6021

First up… using a shoe organizer to store paints and craft supplies.  What I love about it: I put it on the inside of the door heading to my sub-basement, no little fingers can get to it!  Each paint gets it’s own pocket, along with paintbrushes, dot paints, straws, pipe cleaners, glitter and whatever else I could fit in there!

Next up…drying rack.  Hubby bought a paper sorter (a wire one at Wal*Mart) and cut the long legs off one side.  He used the clips that go with the wire closet organizers to attach it to the wall.  It has worked great for storing papers to dry.  I also used 3M hooks to hang up our smocks.  You will also notice trays for painting and wipes for clean up are ready to go for art projects!

Last… I hung these small bins upon the wall that goes down to the sub-basement.  I can easily open the door and reach in and grab a whole tub.  My dad was getting rid of these, so I decided to snag them!  I put small craft items, such as google eyes, sorted puff balls, bells, beans, pasta, beads and anything else that will fit!

How do you organize your craft supplies??  I have much more to organize, so suggestions are appreciated!!!

Using School Supplies- Preschool Lesson Plan

Teaching kids to use school supplies appropriately in the preschool years is important.  Teaching children at the beginning of the year and reinforcing throughout the year can save dried up markers, cut clothes and dried out glue sticks.

This lesson plan set is dedicated to keeping school supplies alive and well :)

You will notice there are only 4 days of lesson plans.  We currently do only 4 days, but I know many who only have two day preschool programs.  So, feel free to pick and choose from these lesson plans as you need.

Along with the lesson plans you will find a song for each day, book recommendations and picture cards.  Plus, any accompanying activities I have created.

Calendar Folders in Pre-K

Do you do calendar binders, folders or notebooks?

I did them back in the day when I taught first grade.  I feel like using a calendar folder helped keep the students accountable for what we were learning/reviewing at calendar time (rather than spacing off & rolling around).

I also did calendar folders last year for preschool, but they were a very simplified version compared to the ones I used in first grade.

Here is what I am using this year:
Calendar Binder Calendars 2012-2013_Page_01
Calendar Binder Calendars 2012-2013_Page_10
The calendars available are August-May of 2012-2013.  As you can see, all months have the numbers included on the calendar (in a grey font) for tracing.  I felt for preschool aged students this was most appropriate.

I also use these AWESOME songs from Growing Kinders:
Slide1

Scroll through this link to find a song for every month of the year.  They rock!

The weather chart is the last component of our calendar folder. Click on the pic below to get this freebie.

Storytelling Fun GIVEAWAY!

Happy Wednesday!

Today I wanted to share with you my **FAVORITE** felt company.

Angela, from Storytelling Fun is a stay-at-home mom whom creates all the felt sets you see in her store!

Angela sent me her newest set to review and boy is it fun!

It is called Sweet Treats Frozen Yogurt.

Sweet Treats Frozen Yogurt with Toppings .Ice cream. Felt Board Set

It has all different kinds of toppings to create your own frozen yogurt sundae!  My 4-year old daughter thought this was great!  She took everyone’s order and added their favorite toppings.

I love this new set, just as my 4 year old does.  All Angela’s sets are the best quality I have found.  The felt is heavy duty and indestructible (trust me, I own 8 sets!).  The graphics are crisp and clean, no added pieces (like pom poms or google eyes) to get lost.  They are perfect for many different ages of children, I love them!

Plus, Storytelling Fun sells these awesome travel size and large sized felt boards.  They fold up (huge bonus), have handles and pockets for storing pieces.

Mini Felt / Flannel Board with handles and storage 14 X16 Lavender

Travel Size Shown- 13x16 when open

We have one of these and it is durable.  Way better than my homemade ones for sure!

I have a felt board center for my kiddos.  It is a very simple center including: the travel felt board and a basket full of organized felt sets.  Students are only allowed to take out one set at a time.  I used zippered pencil pouches to store each set.  Angela sells these zippered pouches in her online store.  They are the perfect organizational tool, seeing how the kids can open and shut them all by themselves (as opposed to ziploc baggies).

If you love these sets as much as I do, why not buy a bundle?  You can buy sets of 5 different felts sets, 10 or 15. They come uncut (like in the photo below), but don’t take much time to cut out.  I saved 4.75 by buying a bundle of 5 different sets (plus free shipping!).
