Over the summer my little C (4 years old) and I were given the opportunity to try out the Reading Eggs website.
Reading eggs is an online, interactive learn to read program. When starting Reading eggs, there is an option to take an assessment or to start from the beginning of the program. Seeing as C is only 4, I just had her start from the beginning. Reading eggs recommends its program for children 3 and over. Each child enrolled in the program gets an avatar to make their own. This program is a stair-stepped program, meaning you are not able to skip and jump around, but must complete a level to move onto the next. With hard work, you can earn golden eggs that can be used to play games.
When Reading Eggs was first introduced to C, she was super excited. This was one of her first online game experiences and was very eager! We found the graphics to be excellent and vibrant. The lessons themselves were very easy to follow along with and needed little instruction from me. Each lesson followed the same format, making it easy for young learners to catch onto. I also loved the visual path, showing the user how their hard work gets them hopping down the path!
The costs of Reading Eggs:
12 months for $75.00
6 months for $49.95
Reading Eggs also have apps available- one of the apps is free! The apps can be found in both the App Store and Google Play. I appreciate Reading Eggs making the apps available for us Android users :)
- It is a safe, engaging site
-Reward for hardwork
-price is a little steep for me (seeing as C is only 4)
-C got bored with the same layout in every lesson after about 5 lessons (I do wonder if this is because of her younger age)
Overall, I think that Reading Eggs offers a valuable resource for parents to help their readers. The programs’ graphic appeal and professional set of lessons make Reading Eggs a winner.
