Preschool Lesson Plan Template

If anyone is interested... here is the Lesson Plan Template I created at the beginning of this year.  I teach only 2 days a week from 9-2:30.
Here is a quick rundown of our day --

Worktime: I have the tables set up and ready for the students when they come in.  On Tuesdays this is a hand-on activity, such as:  playdough, pattern blocks, lacing, beading, pinching puff balls with tongs, puzzles, geoboards (the list goes on and on!).  Then, on Thursdays I put out a skills practice sheet.  Note: I did not start putting out practice sheets until mid year. Practice sheets take lots of teacher direction for most students.  I LOVED how this worked out.  Students knew what to expect each day as they came in the door.  Also, I had students trickling in, so this gave them something to jump right into!  I set a timer to warn when worktime is coming to a close.

Circle Time:  Each student has a job. You can read more about that here.  We also do our pledges, sing our songs (song chart info here).  We use a portion of the Animated Literacy program to teach letters and sounds.  We also do other alphabet activities {post about the hands on letter wall later}. You can read more about my circle time here.

Table Time:  Table time is when students go back to the tables to work on a theme-based activity.  Many times this is an art project or a game (not another practice page).

We have a special class- music.  This is when I get my break and do what I need to do to get ready for the next week.

Writing/Journals: We use the handwriting program: Handwriting Without Tears.  We build the letter first using the wooden sticks.  Then, students complete the practice writing page using a crayon.  We are slowly transitioning to golf pencils.  With the research and knowledge of Marianne Gibbs and Write Out of the Box using smaller writing utencils for smaller hands was the right choice.  If you haven't checked her out- you should!

Large Group:  Here we do an activity at the carpet (we actually have carpet squares, love them).  It is usually a themed based activity that we complete as a group.

Pack Up: We use BEE books.  {more info soon :) }

NOTE: Scribd makes this preview look funny- but is much better when downloaded!!
