Our Preschool Centers

A couple months ago I posted this post about the center signs that I created with my Cricut.  Now I am sharing pictures of our actual centers with the center signs in play!  We are lucky enough to have two classrooms.  One regular classroom and one centers classroom.  Here are photos from our center's classroom.

Only two students are allowed at each center.  Each student has a clothespin programmed with thier name.  To go to a center they clip thier clip to the number 1 or number 2 on the center sign of the center they wish to go to.  If they would like to switch centers they simply move thier clip.  I do not require that my students visit certain centers.  It is completely thier choice.  Although, I have found that all students has visited all centers on thier own throughout time.    I was amazed at how easy the clip system was with my pre-k students.  They picked up on the system quickly and we rarely have any issues during center time.

Library: books and bean bags

Table Games: file folder games, manufactured games and manipulatives

Music: musical instruments

Alphabet: various abc games

Sensory: for the month of Nov: beans and feathers (we call them turkey feathers!)

Art: easel, different drawing utencils, tracing and rubbing templates, crazy scissors and paper

Writing: letter stamps, different writing utencils, writing paper, notebooks, post-its, stickers (sticker stories) and 'mailboxes' (I used stacking trays programmed with students names).

Blocks: lego table, legos and blocks

Pretend:  Currently we have puppets and a puppet theatre.  In December I plan on having a small Christmas tree to decorate.  Later in the year I plan on having a grocery store with cash register and empty food boxes.

Song Charts

Every morning at circle time/ calendar time we sing songs from our song chart.  I used a garment rack from Walmart as a song chart holder.  I did not use the whole hight of the garment rack because I wanted the charts more eye-level of my sitting students.
Both my sister and I created the songs you see in the pictures.  I used large chart paper you can find at most teacher stores.  First I drew the image on with pencil and traced it with permanent marker.  I then used cray-pas (oil pastels) to outline the image.  You then pull the oil pastels into the middle of your picture using a tissue.  On top of the image I wrote the song or poem using a wide permanent marker.  Laminate for durability.
This is our Welcome song that we sing first thing every morning a circle time. We shake hands with friends while we sing.:

Pledge of Allegiance:
These are our Days of the Week and Months of the Year song charts.  We also sing them daily:

The following songs/poems you see are just for the month of November.  I have new songs for each month of the year.  I will do my best to remember to post the other monthly songs!

Our goodbye song:

My students LOVE this time of the day.  They look forward to seeing the calendar time songs and they really enjoy the seasonal/monthly songs.  I often hear them singing the songs while they work at the table or in centers!

Preschool Room

Here is some pictures from my preschool classroom.  I teach two days a week and have a wonderful group of 4/5 year olds!  I hope you may gain a fun idea or two!

Calendar Time
We have a calendar, of course!  It is a pocket chart calendar, which I love!  It makes it very easy to add days and change them out.  I have different calendar markers for each month. Come December I plan on using the patterning calendar cards from the Me & Marie Store.  I started with non-patterning for the beginning of the year.

At the bottom of the calendar I have another form of patterning practice.  We just started this a week ago.  These are just laminated cards with stickers used to create AB and ABC patterns.

Today Is Brought to You By...

This is a poster I made long ago, but I still love.  Inspired by Sesame Street, this poster is a quick and easy way to review shapes, letters, numbers and colors.  A PDF version simliar to this one is available in the Me & Marie Store

Colorful Cliffords:  We use these fun colorful Cliffords to review colors and we use it as a word wall for color words.  My sister made these long ago and are one of my favorites!

Number Train: I created this number train using a diecut machine.  Each car on the number train has a number with the corresponding number of objects.

Weather Chart: This is a weather chart I altered from http://www.jmeacham.com/.  We have a weather helper who looks out the window and tells us the weather.  He or she places a sticker in the correct column on the chart.  We talk about which type of weather has the most/least.  I change these every month.  Here is what we sing while the weather watcher is at the window:
Weather Watcher, Weather Watcher
What do you see? What do you see?
Tell us what the weathers like, tell us what the weathers like,
Chloe please, Chloe please.
